Design and branding at Emma Bridgewater
Visit the Emma Bridgewater Factory on 30 September 2010

Do you make or sell? Then this visit is for you.
We aim to persuade you of the crucial importance of market identification, design and brand management to any business and to show you how we can help you with yours. To do this we have arranged a visit to the wonderful Emma Bridgewater Factory at Stoke. Why? “Emma started from scratch and achieved business success from the beginning through spectacular marketing and identifying gaps. You can do it too”

Spot on for 25 Years
Meet Matthew Rice, author, artist, designer, illustrator and entrepreneur. who established the furniture design company, David Linley Furniture, with David Linley, son of Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret, before meeting and marrying Emma in 1987.
The Emma Bridgewater pottery company was established twenty five years ago, drawing on the traditional methods, techniques and skills of the Stoke pottery trade. Within a few years it had gained a first rate reputation for good design and practicality. The fresh, modern patterns and shapes filled a gap in the market, proving very popular with the British customer who wanted something a little different.
Emma Bridgewater had no formal training in design or business management but she had strong ideas. Her intention was to make pottery using traditional methods of production rather than using expensive machinery.
In that time, when other potteries have closed, the business has grown now incorporating London shops and world wide sales.
