Defra takes the lead on RDPE delivery
Defra is now responsible for the delivery of the RDPE socio-economic elements, formerly delivered by the Regional Development Agencies.
This includes those elements of the Programme that support:
- improvements in the competitiveness of the farming and forestry sectors;
- diversification of the rural economy and the quality of life in rural areas; and
- management of community-led Leader approach.
From 01 July, Defra will be providing a stonger lead on the priorities for delivery and over the following months will also be introducing a more nationally consistent approach to Programme delivery.
Delivery will be managed through Defra’s newly established RDPE Delivery Teams (PDF). Many of those who have been involved in supporting delivery of the Programme so far will continue to be the first point for contact for enquiries.
