Fantastic farm visits! FREE fun, practical 2day workshop to help you host inspirational farm visits

All Rural Hubs - Thursday 3 Mar 2011 at 9.30

Hosting engaging farm visits that inspire and enthuse visitors about farming, food and the countryside takes skill and practise. This two day workshop is aimed at farmers who want to give their visitors a day to remember. It will explore new ways to help you get your messages across and give you lots of new ideas for hands-on activities to inspire your visitors.

Whether your audience is other farmers, children, visitors to your farm or the press, this workshop will give you the presentation and facilitation skills you need to really make a difference to how your industry is perceived and share your passion for farming with others.

When
Thursday 3rd March – Communication, presentation and media skills training
Friday 4th March – Facilitation and participative skills training

The training will be accompanied by onfarm support and there will be a debrief
day at the end of April.

Where
Near Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Who should attend
LEAF is looking for farmers who:
• Are good communicators and are either hosting visits already or are interested in
showing invited visitors around their farm
• Have a real enthusiasm for what they are doing and want to do something positive
for the industry.

What the course involves
• First, LEAF would come and visit your farm, talk through its suitability for visits and
understand what sort of audience you are keen to enthuse
• The two-day workshop is interactive and tailor-made to your needs. It will include
practical tasks, feedback sessions and participation to help you share experiences
and learn from others
• This will be followed by another on-farm visit to help you implement your own
Personal Action Plan you will have developed during the workshop
• There is a de-brief session at the end of April to share lessons learnt, problems
encountered and to highlight positive experiences

What you will learn
The training will give you:
• A high degree of competence in presentation skills
• Practice in getting information and a personal or professional point of view across
effectively in encounters with other farmers, advisors, members of the public and
the press
• Your own style and formula to help engage and involve your visitors to make it a
memorable learning experience
• Improved planning and structuring of farm walks or presentations
• Better creativity with visual aids or props
• A range of skills designed to encourage interaction from a reluctant audience
• And hopefully the momentum, confidence and enthusiasm to host many more
successful and inspirational visits
