“STOCKJUDGING SUCCESS”

On Sunday 17th April The Young Stockjudge and Stockman of the Year Competition took place by kind permission of Angus Dalton, Shawcross Farm, Wootton, Nr Ashbourne, Derbyshire, DE6 2GW. Competitors were required to judge 4 rings of animals, Dairy cows, Breeding ewes, Butchers lambs and Beef. The overall winners on the day were as follows:

Winning competitors will represent Staffordshire at the West Midland Area eliminator on Sunday 3rd July, which Warwickshire are hosting this year.

EVENTS

The National AGM is being held in Blackpool on the weekend, Friday 6th May to Monday 8th May with approximately 150 members from Staffordshire attending the three-day convention.

On Saturday 14th May, The Young Farmers’ Annual Rally is being held by kind permission of JW & BK Sargeant, Parkside Farm, Gayton, Stafford, ST18 0HQ. The Rally attracts members, together with our various sponsors and guests from all over the County. The members take part in 46 competitions, both craft exhibits such as Jungle Graffitti Art Competition or a fancy dress outfit to the theme ‘Jungle’ and Main Ring events such as ATV Handling, a girls “water balloon catching” and Tug of War. The day will conclude with the Rally Dance, with The Bulge Disco, from 9pm – 1am, to be held at the farm. During the evening the Presentation of the Awards from the day will also take place at 10.30pm. Admission to the Rally Dance is £5 for members and £8 for non-members with tickets available on the door.

At the beginning of June, Young Farmers will be very busy preparing for various events to be held at the County Show. The first event will be the Pre Show Reception, when Vice Presidents, Sponsors, friends of the Federation and members are invited to join us. This will be held on Tuesday 31st May, by invitation only, and will include the “YFC’s Got Talent” Competition and the “Club Display” competition where each Club exhibits a display promoting themselves throughout the marquee.

Young Farmers are also training hard for the YFC Ladies and Men’s Tug-of-War Competitions to be held in the Main Ring on the Wednesday evening and their busy schedules are also including float building for the Young Farmers’ Float Competition will take place on Thursday, with the theme this year being “TV Adverts”. The Show Dance will this year be held on Friday 3rd June at Bishton Lane Farm, Wolseley Bridge, Stafford and further information and tickets can be obtained from the County Office or from the Staffordshire Young Farmers marquee at the County Show.

Other forthcoming events include the Midsummer Madness Disco with ‘ABC (Anything but Clothes)’ theme, which is being held on Friday 10th June by kind permission of the Stubbs Family at Butterhill Farm, Coppenhall, Stafford from 9pm – 1.30am, and the Summer Ball – Jungle Fever to be held on Saturday, 9th July this year by kind permission of Atkins Farms at Brookfield Farm, Field, Uttoxeter ST14 8SG with live music from ‘Gold’ and disco.
