“YFC RALLY CATCHES JUNGLE FEVER”
Staffordshire Young Farmers County Rally, was held on Saturday, 12th May at Parkside Farm, Gayton by kind permission of J W & B K Sargeant and was once again this year, it was a great success for the strong Staffordshire Clubs. Over 250 members from across the ten clubs in the County turned out in force to compete in a wide variety of Competitions as well as preparing weeks ahead to enter the Static Classes ranging from Cookery, Floral Art, making “Pineapple Upside Down” cakes, creating fantastic pieces of Jungle Graffiti Art, constructing Hammocks and sewing together “Cuddly Jungle Toys” in order to try and win some silverware at the end of the day. The theme of the NFYFC Cookery and Floral Art Competitions, which are done on the day, was “Musicals”, with the winning Cookery entry from Stone YFC depicting an After Party Dinner. Various other Static Entries were of an excellent standard, including the Summer Ball Road sign, Poster and Ticket Design, which will all be used for the ‘Jungle Fever’ theme at this year’s Summer Ball on Saturday, 9th July by kind permission of Atkin Farms, Brookfield Farm, Field, Uttoxeter with live music from ‘Gold’ along with Superstar DJ.
The Rally day also included a very popular ‘I’m a YFC member – Get me out of Here!’ Competition in the Main Ring, where members had to collect “stars” by completing various tasks, such as searching through cold spaghetti, flour and scrambling under cargo netting along with various other obstacles. Despite the rain holding off for the day, some unfortunate members got a good soaking in the “Water Obstacle” Race, which including hurdles over horse jumps into pools of water, along with buckets of water being thrown at them on the way! The Club Leaders from each club also got stuck into the day’s theme with their very own “Cross Dressing” Tarzan and Jane Competition! The day was rounded off by the ever popular Mixed Tug of War competition, which saw 6 teams taking part, and Waterhouses YFC, who are the NFYFC Tug of War Champions for 2010, taking the silverware for the day.
The Results and Trophies were presented at the Rally Dance, which saw over 300 members and guests letting their hair down and celebrating a fantastic day of competitions, dancing to “Bulge Disco”. The Awards were as follows:
The Overall Rally Cup was won by Waterhouses YFC once again, with Stone YFC in 2nd place and Ashley YFC in 3rd place.
Most Improved Club: (From the previous year’s Rally) Awarded to Uttoxeter JNFU, with Stone YFC in 2nd place and Chase YFC in 3rd place.
Rose Bowl: (Awarded for the NFYFC Competitions). 1st Stone YFC, 2nd Lichfield YFC and 3rd Eccleshall YFC.
Junior Cup: (Awarded for Classes open to members 16 and Under) 1st Waterhouses YFC; 2nd Chase YFC; and Joint 3rd Ashley/Stone YFC.
Intermediate Cup: (Awarded for Classes open to members 21 and under) 1st Waterhouses YFC, 2nd Uttoxeter YFC and 3rd Stone YFC.
Senior Cup: (Awarded for Classes open to members 26 and under) 1st Stone, 2nd Waterhouses YFC and 3rd Leek YFC.
Associate Cup: (Awarded for Open classes) 1st Ashley YFC; 2nd Waterhouses YFC; 3rd Chase/Stone YFC.
Eccleshall Shield: (Awarded for Creative and Skill Competitions) 1st Waterhouses YFC & Uttoxeter JNFU; 2nd Ashley YFC and 3rd Leek YFC.
Sports Cup: 1st Ashley YFC, 2nd Waterhouses YFC and 3rd Uttoxeter JNFU.
Tractor Handling Cup: 1st Waterhouses YFC; 2nd Eccleshall YFC and 3rd Ashley YFC.
T.W.W. Jones Trophy: (Awarded for Staffordshire Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group Competition) 1st Chase YFC; 2nd Ridware and 3rd Ashley YFC.
Tug-of-War Tray: 1st Waterhouses YFC; 2nd Leek YFC and 3rd Eccleshall YFC.
