NFU call for Industry Response to the TB Consultation

Bovine Tuberculosis

The Government has recently taken a major step forward in the battle to control the spread of Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) by launching a consultation which includes proposals to tackle the disease within wildlife as well as cattle.

Although the proposals set some challenging licence conditions, the NFU are convinced that the industry could deliver an efficient, effective badger control programme, which complies with the requirements of the proposals, should they be accepted.

However, the TB consultation will be of interest to a wide range of stakeholder groups and general public alike. This audience will include some very vocal members of pressure groups. As a result, the consultation will no doubt generate a huge response.

It is therefore essential that members of the agricultural industry take a moment to individually respond direct to defra, in order that the industry’s’ voice is heard. This will ensure that the Government appreciate the support that is behind this consultation.

How to Respond
A brief and simple response stating that you are in support of the proposals as laid out within the consultation is all that is required. Should you, however, wish to write a more detailed response there are eight questions posed within the consultation, which will assist you in focusing your comments.
