NVZ Workshop
Worcestershire Rural Hub (as part of the Rural Hubs West Midlands network) is working with the Environment Agency to ensure that all farmers in the County are fully aware of the Nitrate Vulnerable Zone action programme.
The Nitrate Pollution Prevention Regulations 2008 came into effect from December 2008. There has been an expansion of the areas designated as NVZ's and significant changes to the regulations applying within all designated areas.
A practical workshop is to be held at the YFC Centre (Hawford, Worcester, WR3 7SG). This will take place on Tuesday 16th February 2010 from 10am - 2:30pm. Lunch will be provided.
The aim of the campaign is to ensure that farmers are able to meet regulatory and cross compliance requirements. The workshops are designed to inform you of all parts of the regulations that will affect your farm and to help you to understand and complete the required paperwork.
If you have any doubts about NVZ's ask yourself some simple questions:
1. Do you know if your farm holding and any other land that you farm IS WITHIN THE DESIGNATED NVZ AREA OR NOT???
If you are not sure or want clarification please ring 08708 506506 or check out the maps on the websites: www.environment-agency.gov.uk/nvz's or http://web.adas.co.uk/defra.
2. If you are in a designated area, are you confident that you understand what you need to do to meet the requirements of the new regulations??
3. A cross compliance inspection could be 48 hours away - would your NVZ records stand up to that inspection??
If you are unable to answer these three questions with confidence please take advantage of the free workshops where you will be asked to bring along your own farm data so that you can leave having completed or atleast started on your own farm paperwork for NVZ's.
In the true spirit of rural support please encourage any family, friends or neighbours who you think might benefit from some help to come along and get to grips with NVZ's.
