Pink Pigs are flying with knowledge

If you are interested in keeping pigs, a small holder, have a personal interest in pork for a niche market or just have a few pet pigs to finish and would like to learn more. ADAS are holding a series of Smallholder Training Workshops entitled 'Managing the Small Pig Herd for Maximum Health and Optimum Production'.


ADAS along with Lantra and sponsors Emvelo who specialise in natural animal care are inviting those interested to their training workshops/courses to be held in Staffordshire and Warwickshire, starting in March 2011 with the first event and ending with event four in July.


The Staffordshire courses will be held at Amerton Farm & Craft Centre, Stowe by Chartley, Stafford, ST18 0LA and the Warwickshire courses will be held at Umberslade Farm, Butts Lane, Tanworth-in-Arden, West Midlands, B94 5AE.

The cost will be £12 per training workshop and all bookings will be taken by Amerton Farm & Craft Centre on 01889 270294. Courses will commence at 10.00am and conclude at 3.00pm.

Thursday 24 March 2011 (Staffordshire) Wednesday 23 March 2011 (Warwickshire)
Part 1 - Introduction to Good Pig Keeping: What to look for when buying a pig; Housing; Handling and Feeding.

Wednesday 11 May 2011 (Staffordshire) Wednesday 4 May 2011 (Warwickshire)
Part 2 - Common diseases; worming and vaccination AI for beginners.

Tuesday 7 June 2011 (Staffordshire) Wednesday 8 June 2011 (Warwickshire)
Part 3 - Sow conditions, gestation, farrowing and litter management.

Thursday 7 July 2011 (Staffordshire) Wednesday 6 July 2011 (Warwickshire)
Part 4 - Transport and loading, casualty pigs, marketing the product.
