"Enhancement" of Grassland by Green Hay Strewing - Herefordshire Venue
This FREE event is aimed at farmers and landowners who are restoring wildflower meadows in HLS or otherwise. Held at a farm in Longtown where grassland has been restored to high quality with ponds and other habitats, courtesy of Peter Tierney, who has particular expertise in hay strewing.
Topics include:
- Learning about enhancement of grassland biodiversity through different methods that are relevant to larger whole field, and small part field scale projects. Focusing mostly on green hay strewing, including site selection, how to prepare the donor and recipient sites, and how to get the best results. There will be a chance to see different machinery “in action”, weather permitting.
- Discussion about managing problems such as weeds and rushes and the management of difficult sites.
- Grant incentives for grassland restoration.
