Winners 2010
Rising Brook Baptist Church (Business & Prosperity Category)
The overall aim of RBBC has been to reduce their direct environmental impact as well as educating local people and the local community about greener living. RBBC
began by developing an Environmental Policy followed by delivering a teaching series as part of the main church services, They also installed cycle racks outside the church
and established Car Share Sunday and video conferencing to reduce “church miles”. They recycle approximately 26000 Sava-cups per year and run a ‘freecycle’ scheme as well as promoting clothing recycling, with collections for local groups and projects in Africa and other places;  making nesting boxes and buying recycled items for the office; and much more!

Blessed William Howard Catholic High School (Youth and Education Category)
Enthusiastic school children supported by willing and proactive staff embraced the
challenge of the Eco-Schools programme. Their application was aided by a DVD which showed how their activities began, from the setting up of an eco-committee, to carrying out an environmental audit of the school; from an overnight visit to the Centre of Alternative Technology to learn about new technologies and ideas, to the implementing of many of these ideas. A series of practical projects back at school
have included the creation of willow sculptures in the grounds, a greenhouse,
recycling systems throughout classrooms and offices and ‘switch off’ campaigns to
save energy.

Derrington – Way Ahead (Community & Wellbeing Category)
Derrington is becoming a more sustainable community and reducing its carbon
footprint. The village is full of enthusiastic people with several busy community groups. Some of their achievements include the 54 Home Energy visits; around 100 fruit trees planted, including a new orchard at Copper Perry Primary School; 12
rustic benches built with the help of members of the community and the County Council’s Countryside Team; a Local Food Festival in September; solar panels put up on the Village Hall .
