STAFFORDSHIRE YOUNG FARMERS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2010

Published on Monday 8 Nov 2010 by Staffordshire Rural Hub

On Friday 5th November, Staffordshire Young Farmers held their County AGM in the Ingestre Suite, County Showground, Stafford. During the evening many members collected silverware and certificates for their outstanding achievements during the past year. Rob Atkin, County Chairman, gave his report on the activities within the Federation during 2009/2010. He said that he had been a member of Young Farmers for ten years and that being County Chairman was the best thing he had done. He had set himself a goal of revamping some of the Social Events that the Federation hold and this had been reflected in the very successful Summer Ball which had a Hawaiian theme to it, and more recently a very well attended Twilight Ball, which replaced the old ‘Autumn Ball’.
Mr David Bull was elected as County President to serve the Federation for a two-year period. David is 44 years old and he sells farm machinery. He has been connected with Young Farmers for 14 years and has held various Officer roles. He has also been President of Eccleshall YFC for two years. Margaret Bennett was elected as County Deputy President. Margaret has been connected with Young Farmers for 30 years and has held many roles including County Organiser and Catering Supervisor. She is also a Trustee of the Federation.

The Guest Speaker for the evening was Peter Slack, a dairy farmer from the High Peak district in Derbyshire. He gave a very amusing talk about the hard weather in the Peaks. On looking back, he felt that Young Farmers had served as his ‘university experience’ and he also related that his daughter had recently gained a place at her first choice of university, not from her academic grades but from her interview, which he felt reflected what she had learned from belong to the Young Farmers Federation.

The presentation of awards were made by Peter Slack to the winning Clubs and Individuals.

Young people between the ages of 10 – 26, who want to enjoy fun and excitement, competitions, discos, sports, travel, meeting new friends and learning new and different skills, are invited to contact the County Office for details of their nearest Club.
